Troubleshooting
General troubleshooting tips
- The OSD shows up, but the video feed is grey or black: if you’re
plugged in only via USB (e.g., while configuring), it might not be
enough power to run the camera. More generally, this indicates the
camera feed isn’t making it to the video transmitter, and can also
be due to a loose cable.
- Make sure your PID settings are appropriate for your drone: what
works for a 5" drone won’t work for a whoop. This includes setting
the motor KKV values. For example, one of my 5" drones has 1950 KKV
motors, while my whoops have 18,000-36,000 KKV motors. You can
usually load a PID preset for your drone, otherwise you might have
to look for sane defaults.
- Double check motor and propeller orientation. Left-hand (CCW) props
should never be ext to right-hand (CW); they’ll be opposite each
other. If you have a typical quad, make sure the motors are blowing
down, not up. Also, if you have screwed in the motor too tighly,
particularly with a ducted drone, it can cause issues with the prop.
